If I remember my Latin and French correctly, sprung is the past <em>participle</em> as in, 'was anyone sprung from prison?' while sprang is the past <em>tense</em> 'He sprang from prison'.<br /><br />People who get 'rung' and 'rang' mixed up really annoy me ('I rung him', shudder) - almost as much as <a href="http://cdn.sfgate.com/blogs/sounds/sfgate/chroncast/2007/01/23/CorrectMe-001-2.mp3">this caller to the San Francisco Chronicle</a>.
